Turquoise waters, coral-carved alleyways, spice-scented breezes and a coastline that has seduced explorers for a thousand years. Zanzibar is not just a destination. It's a feeling you never quite leave behind.
Zanzibar. Officially Unguja. Floats in the Indian Ocean just 35km off the Tanzanian coast, a jewel-green island ringed by sand so white it looks hand-bleached. Beneath the surface, an underwater world of coral gardens, sea turtles and dolphins awaits.
Above water, Stone Town's UNESCO-listed labyrinth of carved wooden doors, Arabic arches and Swahili spice bazaars transports you somewhere between a Persian palace and a Swahili fishing village. Zanzibar is, at once, Africa, Arabia, India and the sea. All layered into one extraordinary place.
Zanzibar's shoreline shifts personality from coast to coast. Calm lagoons on the west, world-class snorkeling reefs on the east, powdery kitesurfing flats on the southeast and intimate coves in the north. Every beach has its own character, crowd level and set of activities.
Five carefully crafted packages. From a quick 4-day island escape to a deep 10-day immersion. Every itinerary is built around your pace, interests and budget by our local team based in Moshi, Tanzania.
The perfect island taster for those short on time but hungry for experience. In four days you'll walk the UNESCO-listed labyrinth of Stone Town, come face-to-face with giant Aldabra tortoises on Prison Island, breathe in two decades of spice history on a working farm, and surrender the final day to Zanzibar's legendary white-sand beaches. Short in length, long in memory.
Our driver meets you at Zanzibar Airport or the ferry terminal and transfers you to your hotel. After settling in, enjoy a relaxed orientation walk through Stone Town's atmospheric narrow streets. Carved doors, mosques, the Old Fort and the seafront Forodhani Gardens. First Swahili meal of the trip.
A short boat ride brings you to Changuu (Prison Island). Once a quarantine station, now a sanctuary for Aldabra giant tortoises. Meet, pet and feed the ancient residents, snorkel in the crystal bay, then return for a full guided Stone Town walk: the House of Wonders, slave market site, Freddie Mercury's birthplace and Darajani Market.
Head north of Stone Town into Zanzibar's lush spice heartland. Walk a working plantation with your guide. Touching, smelling and tasting cloves, vanilla, cinnamon, cardamom, black pepper, nutmeg and more. Finish with a full Swahili lunch cooked over an open fire and a small souvenir spice bag to take home. Afternoon free for the beach.
Your final morning is yours. Swim, snorkel, read on the beach or browse Stone Town's craft markets one last time. Our driver picks you up at the agreed time and transfers you to the airport or ferry for your onward journey.

Founded by Omani Arab merchants in the 19th century and built over even older Swahili settlements, Stone Town is a city of stories. Every alley reveals another layer. Persian baths, Indian Hindu temples, mosques calling the faithful at dawn and Portuguese fortifications all coexisting within walking distance of each other.
In 2000 it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But no UNESCO plaque captures what it actually feels like to turn a corner at sunset and find an old man selling chai in a doorway carved 200 years ago.
Zanzibar is a year-round destination, but two rainy seasons shape the calendar. The long rains (Masika) run April-May; the short rains (Vuli) arrive in November. The best months for most visitors are June-October and December-March.
The dry southeast trade winds bring sunny skies, calm seas and ideal beach conditions. Visibility is at its best for snorkeling and diving. Whale sharks occasionally pass through Mnemba in August. Busiest and most expensive period. Book accommodation early.
Hot, sunny and excellent for the beach. This is the second-best window to visit. Seas are slightly choppier than June-October but still warm and swimmable. Ideal for honeymooners escaping the northern hemisphere winter. Festive-season crowds in December.
Good value and manageable weather. Showers come and go but there are long sunny windows each day. Fewer tourists, lower hotel prices and authentic local life. Good for budget-conscious travellers and those who prefer quieter beaches.
Heavy rains, especially in April and May (the "long rains"). Tours still run but expect interruptions. Hotels drop prices significantly. November (short rains) is shorter and less severe. Some days are beautiful. Stone Town cultural experiences remain largely unaffected by rain.

Common questions from first-time Zanzibar visitors, answered honestly by our team.
Most visitors need a Tanzania visa to enter Zanzibar, as it's part of the United Republic of Tanzania (a semi-autonomous island). Many nationalities can obtain a visa on arrival at Zanzibar International Airport, or apply in advance online via the Tanzania e-visa portal. Citizens of some East African nations enter free. Always check your specific country's requirements before traveling.
The most popular route is flying from Julius Nyerere International Airport (Dar es Salaam) to Zanzibar's Abeid Amani Karume International Airport. The flight takes about 20 minutes. Alternatively, a fast ferry from Dar es Salaam to Stone Town takes approximately 2-2.5 hours and is a scenic option. From Kilimanjaro (JRO), you'll connect through Dar es Salaam or Nairobi. We can arrange all transfers as part of your tour package.
Zanzibar is considered one of the safest tourist destinations in East Africa. Petty theft can occur in busy areas, as in any tourist destination, but violent crime against tourists is rare. Stone Town is safe to explore on foot during the day; we recommend guided walks at night in the old town. Our team will brief you on local etiquette and areas to be mindful of when you arrive.
Absolutely. And we highly recommend it. The classic combination is: Kilimanjaro climb → Serengeti safari → Zanzibar beach. After the physical demands of climbing and the early mornings of a safari, Zanzibar's beaches are the perfect finale. As a full-service tour operator based in Moshi, Haven Trails Adventures plans all three legs seamlessly. Contact us for a complete Tanzania package.
Zanzibar is a predominantly Muslim island and modest dress is respectful and expected outside of beach areas. On the beaches, bikinis and swimwear are fine. In Stone Town and villages, cover shoulders and knees. Lightweight linen or cotton trousers and a loose shirt are ideal. Women may want a light scarf. This is not just etiquette. It's genuinely appreciated by locals and enriches your experience.
For peak season (June-October) and the honeymoon retreat, we recommend booking at least 4-8 weeks in advance. Half-day tours like the spice farm and Stone Town walk can often be confirmed within a few days. For custom itineraries or group bookings, give us 2-3 months.
