Tanzania's best-kept secret — raw, vast and beautifully uncrowded. Walking safaris through Ruaha. Silent boat drifts down the Rufiji. Africa's finest wild dog sightings in Nyerere. The south is for those who want authentic wilderness without the crowds, and moments that belong only to them.
The Southern Circuit is Tanzania's greatest undiscovered treasure. While the north draws the crowds, the south remains blissfully remote — vast game reserves where you may spend an entire morning without seeing another vehicle, where walking safaris put you on the ground among the wildlife, and where the great Rufiji River carries you silently past hippos and crocodiles.
Ruaha National Park is one of Africa's largest — a lions' stronghold, home to spectacular elephant herds. Nyerere (Selous), the continent's largest game reserve, offers boat safaris found nowhere else in Tanzania. This is the south that repeat safari-goers speak of in hushed, reverent tones.
The Southern Circuit's greatest strength is variety — no other circuit offers walking safaris, boat safaris, and classic game drives in one journey.
Four vast reserves, each with its own distinct character and extraordinary wildlife.
All itineraries are crafted to your pace and interests. These are starting frameworks — we build the rest around you.

Everything adventurous travellers ask about Tanzania's wild southern circuit.
The south is raw, remote, and uncrowded where the north is iconic and accessible. The south offers walking and boat safaris unavailable in the north, near-zero tourist vehicles, and Africa's best wild dog sightings. It's typically for repeat visitors or wildlife adventurers who want something off the beaten track.
Yes — all walks are led by an experienced guide and an armed wildlife ranger. Walking safaris in Ruaha are fully licensed and safety-regulated. Your guide will brief you fully beforehand. The experience is exhilarating precisely because it's real — but it is conducted with rigorous care for your safety at all times.
Higher than almost anywhere else in Africa. Our guides maintain contact with conservation teams tracking known packs in Ruaha and Nyerere. June to August (denning season) offers the best odds, but wild dogs are sighted year-round. We won't promise them — but we know exactly where and when to look.
Most guests fly into Dar es Salaam and then connect via small charter flight to Ruaha or Nyerere airstrips (45–90 minutes). Road access from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi is also possible (approx. 5 hours). We arrange all internal logistics as part of your package.
Absolutely — and many guests do exactly this over a 14–18 day itinerary. See the Serengeti and Ngorongoro, then fly south for the walking and boat safari experience. We design combined circuits regularly and handle all logistics seamlessly.
For standard game drives in Nyerere and Mikumi, children aged 5+ are welcome. Walking safaris in Ruaha require guests to be 16 years or older due to the active nature and proximity to dangerous wildlife. Boat safaris are suitable for children aged 8+ with parental discretion.
