About Forodhani Gardens
Forodhani Gardens sits directly on Stone Town's waterfront, in the shadow of the House of Wonders and the Old Fort, and has served as a public gathering space since the Sultanate era. Each evening the park fills with dozens of food vendors setting up simple charcoal grills and stalls, a tradition that has grown into one of Zanzibar's most iconic food experiences.
Among the market's signature dishes is Zanzibari pizza, a thin dough stuffed with minced meat, egg, vegetables or cheese and fried on a hot griddle, alongside grilled seafood skewers, urojo soup (a tangy local street food), cassava crisps and fresh sugarcane juice pressed to order. Your guide helps you navigate the busy stalls, recommend the best vendors and explain what you are eating.
