An Evening Sail Off Stone Town
A traditional Zanzibari dhow, a wooden sailing boat with roots going back centuries in Indian Ocean trade, is one of the most authentic and relaxing ways to experience Zanzibar's coastline. This sunset cruise departs from Stone Town's harbour in the late afternoon, sailing gently along the coast as the light softens and the sun drops toward the African mainland to the west.

The Zanzibari Dhow
Dhows have sailed the waters between East Africa, Arabia and India for well over a thousand years, carrying spices, ivory, textiles and people across the Indian Ocean's monsoon trade routes. The design, a lateen-rigged wooden sailing vessel, remains largely unchanged, and dhow building continues today in villages such as Nungwi on Zanzibar's north coast.
