This safari is suitable for families with children of all ages. Children aged 5 and above typically enjoy game drives fully. Younger children benefit from flexible lodge schedules and the Zanzibar beach extension — five days at &Beyond Mnemba Island with its calm, protected waters and child-friendly beach environment is perfectly suited to younger travellers. All lodges on this itinerary have experience hosting families with young children and can accommodate special dietary needs and early dining times.
Family Health & Safety
Tanzania's national parks are safe family destinations when guided by a professional. All Haven Trails vehicles carry first aid kits and emergency supplies. We recommend consulting a travel medicine specialist before departure regarding antimalarial medication appropriate for children, yellow fever vaccination requirements and travel health precautions. Mnemba Island's calm protected lagoon is very safe for children of all ages to snorkel and swim.
What to Pack
For the safari: neutral-coloured clothing (khaki, beige, olive), comfortable walking shoes, high-SPF sunscreen and insect repellent, sun hats and sunglasses, binoculars and a wildlife notebook for each child, a camera. For Zanzibar: light summer clothing, swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes for snorkelling, and any favourite comfort items from home for younger children. A small waterproof bag for beach activities.
