Four Wild Ecosystems. Infinite Stories.

Destination One

Tarangire National Park — The Land of Baobabs & Elephant Giants

A park of towering ancient baobab trees, Africa's largest elephant concentrations and remarkable year-round wildlife density — dramatic, visually unlike anywhere else in Tanzania, and deeply rewarding from your very first game drive.

Baobab Landscape

Tarangire National Park is best known for its large elephant families, savannah, iconic baobab trees, seasonal swamps and the life-giving Tarangire River. Animals gather at the river — giraffe, bushbuck and hartebeest are often seen alongside buffalo, zebra and wildebeest. These animals are closely followed by a range of predators: lions, leopards, and rarely cheetahs. The park's defining visual element is its extraordinary baobab trees — some of the largest specimens in East Africa, their swollen water-storing trunks reaching circumferences that require six adults with arms outstretched to encircle. More than 550 bird species have been recorded here, making it one of the finest birding destinations in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Ngorongoro Crater is often referred to as the "Garden of Eden" due to its stunning beauty and extraordinary wildlife density. The crater floor is home to a rich variety of species including lions, elephants, zebras, buffalo and the endangered black rhino. You will also have the opportunity to spot a wide array of bird species, including flamingos around the crater lakes. This safari dedicates two full days to the Ngorongoro Crater — a rare luxury that allows you to cover the full crater floor at a relaxed pace and maximise your chances of encountering all five of the Big Five.

Serengeti National Park — The Endless Plains & Great Migration

The Serengeti is home to the Great Wildebeest Migration: the largest overland movement of mammals on Earth. Between 1.5 and 2 million wildebeest, 500,000 zebra and 250,000 Thomson's gazelle follow the rains in a continuous 800-kilometre loop driven entirely by grass and water. Three full days and nights in the Serengeti from the exceptional Melia Serengeti give you the ultimate wilderness immersion — including a sunrise hot air balloon safari, champagne bush breakfast on landing, a midday bush lunch in the wild and an evening bush dinner under the Serengeti stars.

When to Go

Tanzania's Premium 8-Day Luxury Safari is rewarding in every season. Each period offers a distinct experience across Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. Below is a guide to what each season delivers.

Jun – Oct
DRY SEASON ★ PEAK
Best overall conditions. Tarangire at peak elephant concentration. Ngorongoro Crater wildlife spectacular. Great Migration river crossings in northern Serengeti. Thin vegetation for easy spotting. Cooler days. Predators active at waterholes.
Jan – Mar
CALVING SEASON ★
Serengeti calving season brings thousands of wildebeest calves weekly. Predators in constant pursuit. Lush green landscapes. Ngorongoro Crater excellent. Tarangire superb. Birding and photography outstanding.
Nov – Dec
GREEN SEASON
Short rains. Photogenic lush landscapes. Fewer tourists and lower fees. Migrant birds arrive in spectacular numbers. Dramatic stormy skies and unforgettable golden-hour light over the Serengeti.
Apr – May
LONG RAINS
Long rains can make some tracks challenging. Fewest visitors. Deeply private wilderness experience. Migration moving north through the Serengeti. Excellent value and dramatic scenery.
Haven Trails Tip: For Tarangire's most spectacular elephant concentrations and the best overall conditions across all four destinations, plan for June–October. For the Great Migration river crossings in northern Serengeti, aim for July–October. For calving season predator action in the southern Serengeti, target January–March. Our team tracks seasonal movements in real time and will position your game drives to maximise every sighting.
Safari Highlights

Moments That Will Stay With You Forever

Tarangire's Elephant Herds Among the Baobabs

Your Day 2 game drive delivers an Africa that feels ancient and raw. Tarangire's enormous elephant families — some of the largest concentrations in Tanzania — move between baobab trees that dwarf the Land Cruiser. The park is also home to lions, leopards, giraffe, bushbuck and hartebeest, followed by predators at every turn. From the open roof of the safari vehicle, you absorb the landscape and watch the wildlife in a setting unlike anywhere else in East Africa.

Ngorongoro Crater — The Garden of Eden

Two full days exploring the Ngorongoro Crater — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world's most unique wildlife ecosystems. The crater floor is home to lions, elephants, zebras, buffalo and the endangered black rhino. Flamingos line the crater lakes. You will enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor, allowing you to dine in this breathtaking natural amphitheatre while the wildlife continues its timeless drama around you.

Hot Air Balloon Safari at Sunrise

One of the most extraordinary wildlife experiences on Earth. At dawn over the Serengeti, you float silently above the plains at 300 metres while the world's greatest wildlife spectacle unfolds below. Wildebeest herds stretching to the horizon. Lion prides on kopjes. Elephants moving through the acacia woodland. The balloon descends to a champagne breakfast served in the wild — a moment of extraordinary privilege in one of Africa's most pristine landscapes.

Bush Dining — Lunch and Dinner in the Wild

Enjoy exquisite bush lunches and bush dinners amidst the stunning landscapes of the Serengeti — creating a truly magical and intimate dining experience in the wild. Your guide selects a spectacular setting for lunch in the heart of the park, and in the evening organises a bush dinner under the African stars in a secluded spot surrounded by the wilderness. Meals prepared by the lodge kitchen team, presented in nature at its most magnificent.

The Great Migration — Serengeti in Real Time

Three full days inside the Serengeti give you the time to truly experience the world's greatest wildlife movement. 1.5 to 2 million wildebeest in continuous seasonal motion. The massing of predators that follow. The explosive calving season in the south or the dramatic Mara River crossings in the north — your guide positions you for the season's defining spectacle. Your stays at Melia Serengeti place you inside this moving river of life, not adjacent to it.

Luxury Inside the Wild — Melia Serengeti & Tarangire Treetops

Three nights at Melia Serengeti — a luxurious lodge set in the heart of the park, with stunning views of the plains and an infinity pool overlooking the Serengeti wilderness. One night at Tarangire Treetops, an extraordinary property built into and around the baobab trees inside Tarangire National Park itself. Two nights at AndBeyond Ngorongoro Lodge with breathtaking panoramic views of the crater. Luxury and wilderness are not opposing forces on this safari — they are one.

Maasai Cultural Village Visit

Enhance your journey by engaging with the local Maasai community. Visit villages to learn about their traditions, art and unique way of life — a people who have coexisted with the wildlife of Tanzania's highlands and plains for centuries. Meet elders, warriors, women and children, and gain first-hand insights into the rich cultural traditions of one of Africa's most recognisable tribes. This cultural encounter adds a profound layer to the wilderness experience.

Big Five Across All Destinations

This 8-day itinerary creates one of the strongest Big Five encounter records available in any Tanzania safari format. Lion and elephant are reliably encountered across all destinations. The endangered black rhino is most reliably found on the Ngorongoro Crater floor — one of the few places in Tanzania where rhino can be practically guaranteed. Leopard, buffalo and cheetah round out extraordinary game drive days across Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti.

Why Book With Us

Why Haven Trails Adventures

01
Expert Naturalist Guides

Every Haven Trails guide holds a Professional Tourist Guide Certification and has completed a minimum of 1,000 guided field hours before leading any client. Our guides don't simply drive you to animals — they read the land, interpret behaviour, share ecology, track seasonal patterns and make every sighting a story worth telling. Many guests describe their guide as the single highlight of the entire trip.

02
Custom-Fitted Safari Vehicles

Every safari departs in a custom-fitted 4x4 Land Cruiser with a 360-degree pop-up roof for unobstructed photography, forward-facing window seats, individual USB charging ports, a stocked cooler with drinks, binoculars, a first aid kit and a radio linked to the park-wide guide network. A maximum of 6 guests per vehicle. Never a crowded bus safari.

03
Locally Based, Real-Time Intelligence

We are based in Moshi, Tanzania — not a booking platform in London or New York. Our team is in Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti every week, tracking seasonal wildlife movements in real time, building direct relationships with park rangers and TANAPA wardens, and repositioning game drives based on live conditions. You benefit from intelligence that no international operator can match.

04
Bush Safety & Emergency Protocols

All Haven Trails guides carry satellite communication devices and emergency first aid supplies. We maintain evacuation protocols for every park on the circuit in partnership with Flying Doctors Tanzania. All clients receive emergency contact cards, and our 24/7 Moshi operations centre monitors every active safari throughout the trip.

05
Tailored, Never Generic

This 8-day luxury itinerary is a framework, not a formula. Every detail is adjusted for your group: travel dates for optimal seasonal wildlife positioning, group size, pace, dietary requirements, special interests such as photography or birding, and any additional combinations such as a Zanzibar beach extension or a private charter flight between parks.

06
Responsible & Community-Rooted

Haven Trails prioritises Tanzanian-owned suppliers, community-run support services and conservation-conscious partnerships. A portion of every booking supports local ranger training through the Kilimanjaro Conservation Fund. Travelling responsibly is not a feature — it is our operating principle.

What luxury accommodations are used on this safari?
Accommodations during the Tanzania Premium 8-Day Luxury Safari are carefully selected for comfort, service quality and extraordinary setting. Night 1 is at Grand Melia Hotel in Arusha. Night 2 is at Tarangire Treetops, a luxury lodge built into the ancient baobab trees inside Tarangire National Park itself. Nights 3 and 4 are at AndBeyond Ngorongoro Lodge, a world-class property on the crater rim with breathtaking panoramic views of the caldera. Nights 5, 6 and 7 are at Melia Serengeti, a luxurious lodge set in the heart of Serengeti National Park with an infinity pool and stunning views of the endless plains. Each accommodation has been chosen not only for its facilities but for the quality of the wildlife experience it enables.
Is the hot air balloon safari included in the price?
Yes. The hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti is included in the Tanzania Premium 8-Day Luxury Safari package. This includes the sunrise balloon flight, the champagne bush breakfast served on landing in the wild, and all safety briefings and equipment. The balloon safari operates on one of the two full Serengeti days (Days 6 or 7) depending on weather and operational conditions. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and one of the defining highlights of the 8-day itinerary.
Will I see the Great Migration and the Big Five on this safari?
The Tanzania Premium 8-Day Luxury Safari is one of the strongest Big Five and Great Migration itineraries available in any format. The Big Five are present across all three main destinations. The endangered black rhino is most reliably encountered on the Ngorongoro Crater floor — one of the few places in Tanzania where rhino can be practically guaranteed. The Great Wildebeest Migration is a year-round phenomenon in the Serengeti ecosystem: with three full days in the Serengeti, your guide tracks the migration in real time and positions your drives for the most dramatic encounters. The specific migration behaviour depends on the season — calving in January–March, main herds in the central Serengeti mid-year, and river crossings in the north from July–October.
Are there cultural experiences included in this safari?
Yes. The Tanzania Premium 8-Day Luxury Safari includes the option to visit a traditional Maasai village during the safari — engaging with elders, warriors, women and children and gaining first-hand insights into the rich cultural traditions of Tanzania's last nomadic tribe. Haven Trails is committed to facilitating genuine cultural exchanges that respect and benefit the communities visited. The Maasai Village visit can be arranged at extra cost. If you desire a tailor-made cultural experience or wish to add further community engagement to your safari, contact Haven Trails directly to discuss your preferences.
