A fitting finale to five days of extraordinary wildlife encounters and absolute luxury in the African wilderness.
Three Wild Ecosystems. Infinite Stories.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area — The World's Greatest Caldera
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most breathtaking natural wonders in the world. The Ngorongoro Crater is a vast, self-contained ecosystem teeming with the densest concentration of wildlife in Africa — including one of the last stable populations of black rhino.
The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera and one of Africa's most extraordinary wildlife sanctuaries. Formed three million years ago when a massive volcano collapsed inward, the 260-square-kilometre crater floor now sustains a unique, self-contained ecosystem where animals rarely need to migrate in search of food or water. The result is an extraordinary density of wildlife visible from any point within the crater walls.
With two full days dedicated to Ngorongoro, this safari allows guests to experience the crater at completely different times of day — early morning light across the soda lake with flamingos in their thousands, midday predator activity on the short-grass plains, and afternoon golden hour over the acacia woodland fringe. All Big Five species are reliably encountered, with Ngorongoro hosting one of the highest densities of lions in Africa and a critically important population of black rhino.
Serengeti National Park — The Endless Plains & Great Migration
Africa's most iconic wilderness. Where the world's greatest wildlife spectacle unfolds in real time and the Big Five roam across 14,763 square kilometres of infinite open savannah — best experienced from both ground level and from the air at dawn.
The Serengeti is approximately the size of Switzerland, encompassing vast plains, rocky kopjes, riverine woodlands and seasonal wetlands. The Seronera Valley at the park's centre is the most productive year-round predator zone in Africa — permanent water and dense vegetation sustain lion prides, leopards draped over sausage trees, cheetah families and hyena clans throughout the year. The park's infinity of scale and the continuous drama of predator-prey relationships make it a destination unlike any other on the planet.
The Serengeti is home to the Great Wildebeest Migration: the largest overland movement of mammals on Earth. Between 1.5 and 2 million wildebeest, 500,000 zebra and 250,000 Thomson's gazelle follow the rains in a continuous 800-kilometre seasonal loop. On Day 5 of this safari, the Serengeti is witnessed from an entirely new perspective — from a hot air balloon at dawn, drifting silently above the plains as the wildlife below moves through the golden early light. A once-in-a-lifetime aerial view of the world's greatest wildlife spectacle.
When to Go
Tanzania's Premium Luxury 5-Day Safari is rewarding in every season. Ngorongoro Crater is excellent year-round due to its self-contained ecosystem. The Serengeti varies by season with each period delivering distinct and extraordinary wildlife encounters.
Moments That Will Stay With You Forever
Two complete days on the crater floor — a rare luxury that most safaris deny their guests — means two completely different experiences of Africa's most extraordinary concentrated wildlife sanctuary. Day 2 delivers the first descent and the shock of scale. Day 3 delivers the intimacy: you know where the lion prides rest, where the rhinos move, where the hippos wallow. With over 25,000 animals in a 260-square-kilometre caldera that most never leave, no two hours are ever the same.
Your Day 5 begins before sunrise with one of the most extraordinary experiences in African travel. The balloon lifts silently into the dawn light over the Serengeti as the plains below come alive with the movement of thousands of wildebeest, zebra and the predators that follow them. Drift for an hour above the world's greatest wildlife spectacle, then land for a champagne bush breakfast. A once-in-a-lifetime experience that redefines what it means to witness the African wilderness.
Ngorongoro Crater hosts one of the highest lion densities in Africa, a critically important black rhino population, large elephant herds, cape buffalo and leopards in the woodland fringe. The Serengeti adds enormous lion prides, tree-resting leopards in the Seronera Valley, cheetahs on the open plains and Africa's most dramatic elephant encounters. Over five days across these two ecosystems, Big Five sightings are not aspirational — they are expected on every single game drive.
The world's largest overland migration of mammals. 1.5 to 2 million wildebeest in continuous seasonal movement across the Serengeti ecosystem. Whether you visit during the calving season in the south, the westward green season movement, or the dramatic Mara River crossings in the north, your Haven Trails guide positions you for the season's defining spectacle. And when the balloon lifts at dawn on Day 5, the migration is visible in its full aerial scale — stretching across the plains as far as the horizon allows.
The Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti is one of the most spectacular safari properties in East Africa. The legendary infinity pool overlooks a watering hole regularly visited by elephants, buffalo and other wildlife — creating an experience unique in the world where guests swim while large animals drink metres away. Gourmet dining, spa facilities, exceptional service and rooms designed to frame the Serengeti landscape make this one of the most memorable safari stays available anywhere in Tanzania.
After the hot air balloon lands on the Serengeti plains, the ground crew has already set a fully-equipped bush breakfast in the wild. Tables, linens, fresh food, and champagne — all laid out on the open savannah with nothing but the African wilderness around you. Lions may be visible in the distance. The balloon team shares stories of the flight. The morning light is extraordinary. This champagne bush breakfast is one of the most memorable meals in East Africa, taken in one of its most extraordinary locations.
AndBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge sits on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater with views straight down into one of Africa's most extraordinary landscapes. Each suite is lavishly appointed, with private butler service, banana leaf ceilings, gilded chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the crater. From your bed, you look directly into the caldera where 25,000 animals live. No other lodge on the planet offers this specific combination of extreme luxury and extreme wilderness in such dramatic proximity.
Throughout this premium safari, dining is as much an experience as the game drives. Picnic lunches inside Ngorongoro Crater are set at scenic viewpoints while wildlife grazes in the middle distance. Bush lunches in the Serengeti are positioned in the shade of acacia trees on the open plains. Evening dinners at AndBeyond and Four Seasons are gourmet affairs with Tanzanian-influenced menus and wine lists that bear no resemblance to anything you might expect to find this deep in the African wilderness.

Why Haven Trails Adventures
Every Haven Trails guide holds a Professional Tourist Guide Certification and has completed a minimum of 1,000 guided field hours before leading any client. Our guides don't simply drive you to animals — they read the land, interpret behaviour, share ecology, track seasonal patterns and make every sighting a story worth telling. Many guests describe their guide as the single highlight of the entire trip.
Every safari departs in a custom-fitted 4x4 Land Cruiser with a 360-degree pop-up roof for unobstructed photography, forward-facing window seats, individual USB charging ports, a stocked cooler with drinks, binoculars, a first aid kit and a radio linked to the park-wide guide network. A maximum of 6 guests per vehicle. Never a crowded bus safari.
We are based in Moshi, Tanzania — not a booking platform in London or New York. Our team is in Ngorongoro and the Serengeti every week, tracking seasonal wildlife movements in real time, building direct relationships with park rangers and TANAPA wardens, and repositioning game drives based on live conditions. You benefit from intelligence that no international operator can match.
All Haven Trails guides carry satellite communication devices and emergency first aid supplies. We maintain evacuation protocols for every park on the circuit in partnership with Flying Doctors Tanzania. All clients receive emergency contact cards, and our 24/7 Moshi operations centre monitors every active safari throughout the trip.
This 5-day premium luxury itinerary is a framework, not a formula. Every detail is adjusted for your group: travel dates for optimal seasonal wildlife positioning, group size, pace, dietary requirements, special interests such as photography, birding or cultural experiences, and any additional combinations such as a Zanzibar beach extension or Tarangire National Park add-on.
Haven Trails prioritises Tanzanian-owned suppliers, community-run support services and conservation-conscious partnerships. A portion of every booking supports local ranger training through the Kilimanjaro Conservation Fund. Travelling responsibly is not a feature — it is our operating principle.
